Dr.Elberse heads the laboratory research activities that are assessing the impact of the pneumococcal vaccination used in the national immunization program at the Centre for Infectious Disease Control Netherlands (CIb) of the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) in the Netherlands.

Short biosketch for the presentation: After a short introduction about the bacterium Streptococcus pneumoniae, this presentation will provide you with insights into the pneumococcal vaccination in the Netherlands. The overall effects of the vaccine on invasive disease will be shown. Moreover, in this presentation the Dutch strain surveillance, methods and results from the past years, will be presented.
